Regional Seminar:
Political Parties in the Fight Against Poverty

The second phase of the project Political Parties in Central America, Panama and Dominican Republic, initiated in March 2006 and integrated by AECI, ASDI, IDB, DFID, IDEA, aims at contributing to the ability of political parties for responding more efficiently to the promotion of good government, sustainable development with equity, democracy, and the fight against poverty.

Among the planned activities, there will be a series of regional seminars with the participation of leaders from political parties with parliamentary representation. These seminars pretend to create a reflection and discussion space for political leaders, focused on the problems and challenges they are facing.

As a starting point, the Regional Seminar on Political Parties in the Fight Against Poverty will be hold in Managua, Nicaragua on October 24-25. The Democratic Dialogue Project will provide technical support for the methodological design and facilitation of the event. The main objectives of this regional seminar are:

  • Deepen the knowledge of political parties leaders on the evolution of poverty, poverty reduction strategies and its approach in connection with the millennium development goals.
  • Generate some reflections on the role of political parties in public policymaking directed at poverty reduction in the region.

Reinventing
Globalization, 2006

The "Reinventing Globalization" process proposes to act within a context in which the institutional "international community" seems void of any project for the people and the excluded, neo-liberal globalization appears as to weaken, and the alterglobalization movement seems to loose breath.

It aims at enhancing new strategies and new alliances within civil society and later beyond, by creating a new dynamic, which will enable to listen to citizens again, to reinvest public space, and to suggest other narratives of the world as it is and other visions of its possible future.

This third event of the process initiated in New York in 2005 is organized by Bridge Initiative International. in collaboration with GDP (Generative Dialogue Project) of which the Democratic Dialogue Project is founder and member. It will take place in Lyon, France, on October 24 and 25. Our director, Elena Díez Pinto has been invited as facilitator in this high-level conversation.
